Social Networking and the Classroom

I often thought about whether or not social networking would be feasible as a technological tool that would enhance the teaching and learning environment.
Social networking is defined as social networking is the grouping of individuals into specific groups, like small rural communities or a neighborhood subdivision...  This same blog goes on to say that "although social networking is possible in person, especially in the workplace, universities, and high schools, it is most popular online. This is because unlike most high schools, colleges, or workplaces, the internet is filled with millions of individuals who are looking to meet other people, to gather and share first-hand information and experiences."
That is the hook guys, share experiences... gone are the days when you have to physically go to a location in order to gain a vast array of knowledge about the location. It is a fact that, you can meet individuals on the internet that you may have never met in real life. Isn't that what the whole point of school is abou? Getting new experiences that should mold and shape you as an individual as you get ready for the world of work!
Everyday we hear that we live in a technologically advancing society. A number of schools have used various technology tools in order to enhance the teaching and learning environment. I think that with the right policies and measures to monitor these policies; that social networking in a school environment could be very effective. Read this blog that is very detalied about this topic. Look at the comments posted and think about what I have said, and of course what you have read.
Now that you have read the blog, what do you think? Can social netwoking work in a school environment. Think outside the box. Let's not limit speech.

                                                          Let's Not Limit Speech!

What do you think? Can social networking, as I said before, with the right policies and ways to monitor use in schools, can it work? Hmmm..... Food for thought.... See you soon in cyberspace!
